It was a few years back, I received a phone call from a telemarketer about credit cards. I didn't have any credit at the time, and I when I got the call, the telemarketer promised me that I would get substantial amounts of credit from various credit card companies. I was skeptical of course as I hadn't been able to get any credit before, and I was on the phone for nearly an hour with this jerk! I was to pay $99 and he assured me my mailbox would be full of pre-approved credit cards. I asked every question I could possibly think of to find the "catch", but he gave me his name, extention number, etc. and assured me everything was legitimate. Well, I agreed and gave my checking account number for the funds to be withdrawn. . . a week or so later, I got a small booklet in the mail, telling me how to "repair" my credit and giving a small list of credit card companies to "apply" for! I was so mad, I called the company number he had given, and guess what?! No such person, I couldn't get back to the company that called me, because they were just the order taking line. I tried my best to get my money back, but I never did. They had recorded me telling them I wanted the "serivce" and there was nothing I could do! So, the lesson learned here, is that no matter WHAT the telemarketer tells you, they CAN lie and get away with it. . . it all depends on the person you get transfered to who records you agreeing . . . it's a shame they can do this. Just be very sure you listen very carefully to the person actually recording and taking your order before you agree! Alanna
