Nearly everyone has some area of expertise on a subject others would want to learn about. There is money to be made by teaching others and demonstrating on video topics they want to know more about by making and selling how-to videos.

First, determine your area of expertise, what are you knowledgable in? What are you good at? What are your hobbies or skills you have perfected? Are you good at parenting, crafting, planning parties, horseback riding, archery or any other thing you can possibly think of, even if it's something as simple as winning a board game, there are people that would want to learn from you!

Once you have determined the market you would like to get into, put an outline together for the content you will provide. This is the most time consuming part of setting up your how-to video business, but also the most important. Start by writing down some general ideas and then you can get more specific. Lay out a plan for scenes you will be taping to get the message across to your audience.

You do not need to be a professional to produce a how-to video! You can use your own home camcorder to get started. You simply just state that your video is not professional edited/taped and as long as they know that, it's fine to just use your own camera. The content is what is important to those interested in your topic anyway. If you use a professional production company, the cost to get your videos produced is much greater and you have to charge more for your videos. You can make a lot of money selling your how-to videos on the internet for $20! Think about it: If you sell your video for $25, all you need to do is sell around 80 videos a week, or 325 videos a month to gross $100,000 a year.

Try to keep your videos interesting, no one really wants to buy a video of a talking head! Do some research on the internet for advice on creating effective content. If there is one single factor that makes or breaks a How to video, its the choice of topic. Another factor to consider is the length of the material. To remain interesting the average how to video must be fast paced and relatively short not exceeding 45 minutes. More successful videos are no more than 30 minutes long as this is a tolerable length by which a video can effectively cover a topic and remain interesting.

Once your video is finished you'll want to market it. Ebay is a very good place to start, in fact there is an ebook mini-course called Sell Books & Videos that explains how to go about creating your own how-to videos and selling them on Ebay and other places. It's worth checking out if you are interested in this business.
